After the consequences of tsunami “Gregor” become more and more evident, it became clear that a dire situation developed in the island state of Cape Verde. The state is located in the Atlantic ocean off the western African coast. Many of the 500.000 citizens of the country are still missing or unaccounted for, and as of now there are at least 30.000 people estimated to have died. The infrastructure in the small island state has been almost completely destroyed or damaged, and the country is struggling to cope with the situation. Representatives of the country held emotional speeches in front of the African Union and the Security Council, urging the international community to act and help the people of Cape Verde. As the state of Cape Verde is practically non existent at the moment it is unclear how to proceed with the now stateless survivors of Cape Verde.
