Amnesty International confirms that the Islamic Republic of Mauritania is about to launch a secret nationwide purging wave to get rid of homosexual people and persons in premarital coitus according to the Shari’a law. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania believes that the chaos around the world would conceal these deaths and that no one would recognize the disappearance of several hundred people at this time of crisis.
This information has been submitted to Amnesty International by reliable observers of its own crisis team.
Such a purging wave violates several human rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights such as the right to life, liberty and security of person (Article 3) as well as the ban on discrimination personal freedoms, including sexual orientation (Article 2).
Amnesty International strongly urges the Islamic Republic of Mauritania not to implement its new laws and encourages the international community to find a solution on how to prevent the Islamic Republic of Mauritania from the implementation of such a purging wave.
