The government of Azerbaijan agreeing to a treaty that gives autonomy to the region of Nagorno-Karabakh has been welcomed by the international community. However, it seems as if the move has induced opposite feelings among the people of Azerbaijan. With news of the peace-treaty breaking, supporters of Azeri nationalism gathered on the streets to protest against their government agreeing to basically handing over territory to Nagorno-Karabakh. Thousands of people gathered on the streets and showed their disapproval with the decisions of their government. Some people have been seen burning Armenian flags during the protests and it seems the position of president Ilham Aliyev has been severely weakened due to his recent decisions. The protests are continuing in Baku and other cities around the country.
