The security situation in eastern Ukraine remains tense. The observations of the Special Monitoring Mission of OSCE have provided important information about the situation in Ukraine, especially in the east of the country.
So Germany intends to support the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, by seconding additional staff. Up to ten federal police officers are to be seconded to mission headquarters, the Cabinet has decided. The OSCE is monitoring primarily compliance with the ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons.
As well as the federal police officers, Germany will also send 28 civilian monitors from the Federal Foreign Office to the Special Monitoring Mission. They are deployed through the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF)
